Keynote Speaker
Why hire Angela to speak at your next event?
Angela brings her experience working in politics to teach people to collaborate and listen to each other to reach your highest goals professionally and personally. Pulling from over ten years of political experience and five years working with families with children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), Angela teaches the audiences how-to improve their pragmatic language skills so you can communicate with all types of people even ones you may not really like. Working with all types of people can be difficult and uncomfortable, but learning when to use different communication, verbal and non-verbal can be essential to moving your life forward and reaching your potential.
Jump-off the train of people not working together and let Angela teach you how-to create strong working groups that communicate, respect each other, and follow-through with productive projects. Angela has worked with lawmakers (Republicans, Independents, and Democrats) to produce legislation helpful to the greater community. In addition Angela continues to coach parents with children with ASD and the educators who work with their children on how-to create a team to educate while staying clear of conflicts. The Build Your Family Parenting Workshop
Why hire Angela for a parenting workshop?
Soon after lecturing to mostly professionals working with people on the spectrum, some parents convinced Angela to produce a parenting workshop to help them and others. Some close parents saw that Angela added loving parenting skills to Tristan’s ASD therapies that were able to grow Tristan while also keeping her family intact (80% of families affected by ASD end in divorce) and her other children developing. First, Angela produced and wrote a workbook and DVD called, Build Your Family, to work through the process of developing a workshop series.
Angela thought “why not produce a workbook and DVD while also developing a workshop series that coincides, we can reach more families.” So, two years ago Angela convinced close friends and family to help write, edit, and record Build Your Family. And out of the workbook and DVD comes the Build Your Family workshop that has taught hundreds of families, how-to develop the family they always wanted even with ASD in the background. "Angela's presentation was so very well-rounded! She explored many areas of Autism including diagnosis, the IEP process, therapies and how to maintain focus on the whole family. I was very impressed by the information and suggestions she offered and was even able to incorporate a family meeting into our weekend routine. The lines of communication are now open at our house! Thanks so much Angela!" ~Laurie Mulhern, a parent
Professional Lectures
Why hire Angela for professional lectures?
Since 2005 Angela has been giving a lecture called A Parent’s Perspective to medical and nursing students, educators, professionals, and allied health professionals. A Parent’s Perspective draws on Angela’s experience raising Tristan (her oldest son with ASD) from before diagnosis when doctors would either say Tristan was developing normally or she was parenting all wrong to Tristan being diagnosed with ASD at the age of three with a twenty-four month delay in development to now.
Through many hours of ASD therapy and hard work on everyone’s part (mostly Tristan), Angela tells the story of over-coming ASD and finding Tristan who is now a empathic, growing, communicating (both verbal and non-verbal), and a happy kid along with most importantly a great friend to many. “A new appreciation for how difficult this can be for parents... Refreshing! (Angela's) presentation was energetic, she's clearly passionate with care for children with autism and she conveyed that passion well. Very interesting and compelling first person perspective." ~ Carole Richards, RN, Vermont Children's Hospital
